Rock & Roll Heaven (Oliver Klaus 1974)

The version that was meant to be a hit.

In 1974, Warner Bros sent a new song to our producer, Ed Boucher, asking if Oliver Klaus would record it. The song was Rock & Roll Heaven. John Stewart produced the session, and the label approved the recording as the version they intended to release.

But the deal never happened. Our manager refused the single‑only contract, insisting on a full album. Warner Bros moved on, and the song was re‑cut by the Righteous Brothers, who took it to #3 on the Billboard charts.

Our version — the one meant to be the hit — was never released by Warner Bros. But we did issue it independently in 1976 on our own DIY label, Capt. Moze. The master tape was never archived, and over the years the session was simply forgotten, except for the boxes of Capt. Moze 45s I kept tucked away.

This 2026 release is restored directly from one of those original 45s.
